How we lied to Africa
Nearly two years ago, an 86-year-old man shuffled to the front of a stage in Johannesburg and challenged people to "wipe poverty from the Earth". Nelson Mandela, watched by an estimated billion people as he addressed the 2005 Live8 concert, called on world leaders gathering for the G8 summit to show commitment, to not make hollow promises. "It is within your power to avoid a genocide of humanity."

Livesimply book urges curb on northern lifestyle
"Make Poverty History showed that many people are concerned about poverty and want to see change in the way the world operates. Livesimply challenges people in the global North to take the next step: to be the change they want to see, to make the changes in their own lives that, like ripples in the teeming ocean of the earth community, will reach out and help bring change to the lives of others. Only if we live sustainably, if we walk our talk, can we really help the poor." Edward P. Echlin

Simply Sharing Week - "Send My Friend To School"
Schools and churches are encouraged to visit this website to download resources and materials for the 2007 Simply Sharing Week campaign. The theme for 2007, "Send My Friend To School", aims to educate Australian students and church members on why education is such an important component in poverty reduction and building peace. Individuals and groups are encouraged to demonstrate their commitment to education for all primary-aged students around the world by going online to make a virtual "friend". These virtual "friends" will be presented to the Federal Government later in the year with a request to increase aid to basic education. Students are also encouraged to order "Send My Friend to School" pencils.

"It will be a great day when our schools get all the money they need and the Air Force has to run a [cake] stall to buy a bomber."
Anonymous
"God calls us to look hard at our lifestyles and to choose to live simply, sustainably and in solidarity with the poor. In this way we can help create a world in which human dignity is respected and everyone can reach their full potential. This would be true progress, worth more than economic growth alone."
